The Iaras project by the architectural office MK27, located in Brazil, exemplifies a harmonious blend of modern design, structural innovation, and homage to traditional Brazilian modernism. The idea behind Iaras was born from a study that prioritized family living, focusing on integrating the living room and kitchen, and overlooking a breathtaking view. The design aimed for a sophisticated structural calculation without beams, adjusting the façade's proportion to elongate it.

The room is surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows and extends to the balcony, with the view as the backdrop. Like in Brazilian modernism, the boundaries between external and internal blur. To further pay tribute to the modernism of renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer, an edition of the sculpture "as Iaras" by Alfredo Ceschiatti was purchased for the interior of the common areas, the same sculpture that graces the Palácio da Alvorada.

When it comes to the technology, Building Information Modeling (BIM) played an indispensable role. "The collaboration between Autodesk and renowned architectural firms like MK27 has been extremely fruitful," says Sylvio Mode, Presidente Brasil da Autodesk. "MK27 fully leverages our comprehensive suite of tools in their day-to-day operations. The Iaras project in Porto Alegre is a striking example of how this collaboration leads to exceptional architectural standards. Adopting a full Revit approach, MK27 was able to explore design and construction in ways that would be far more complex and time-consuming without Autodesk."

Sylvio elaborates, "The integrated use of Autodesk tools allowed MK27's team to create detailed digital models that faithfully represent the architectural vision. This not only simplified team communication but also provided deeper insights into every aspect of the project, from geometry to building systems. The use of Revit allowed MK27 to explore various design layouts agilely and efficiently, leading to more refined projects that meet both functional requirements and desired aesthetics."

The Iaras project is more than just an architectural feat; it's a seamless blend of Brazilian cultural heritage and modern technological tools like BIM. Through the intelligent and creative use of Autodesk solutions, MK27 sets a new standard in architectural design, showcasing how technology can be a powerful ally in realizing innovative ideas in contemporary architecture.
