Omar Degan is an internationally recognised architect and curator, and the Founder and Head Curator of the Pan-African Biennale, the first continental platform dedicated to architecture, the built environment, and spatial futures led from Africa. His work operates at the intersection of architecture, culture, and geopolitics, advancing critical perspectives on cities, heritage, and collective futures shaped by colonial legacies, climate pressure, and rapid urbanisation. In 2017, he founded DO Architecture Group in Mogadishu, an international practice working in fragile and complex contexts, including post-conflict reconstruction, climate-responsive design, and community-led urban strategies. Through the Pan-African Biennale, Degan is building a continental institution that positions architecture as a strategic cultural and civic instrument, redefining Africa’s role as a producer of global architectural knowledge.
