Timeless forms: celebrating the essence of design

How can design transcend fleeting trends to capture something truly timeless? The April edition of Architecture Hunter’s webinar series explored this question through the perspectives of two distinguished guests: Carlo Biasia, Special Projects Architect for Interni Magazine, and Alberto Essesi, Founder of Essesi Design. Together, they revealed how form, emotion, and context intertwine to create experiences that outlive their material reality.

Carlo Biasia offered an in-depth look into the curatorial process behind Interni’s legendary installations during Milan Design Week. As he explained, although these ephemeral works are physically present for only a short period, their ideas and emotions resonate far longer. Carlo emphasized the democratic nature of Fuorisalone, a celebration of design that invites everyone - not just industry insiders - to engage with architectural experimentation. Through collaborations between architects and brands, installations become vehicles for future-thinking, showcasing innovation not through static products but through immersive, emotional experiences. “We work with experimentation, with ephemeral,” Carlo shared, highlighting how temporary architecture can serve as a powerful tool for shaping cultural conversations and inspiring lasting memories.

Shifting from the large-scale curatorship of Milan to a more intimate practice, designer Alberto Essesi presented a deeply personal approach to timelessness. With a background spanning high-tech design at Tesla and SpaceX to founding his own studio in Mexico City, Alberto’s journey illustrates a desire to move beyond utility alone. His objects - ranging from sculptural pens to ceremonial water pitchers - invite users to slow down, appreciate rituals, and connect more fully with everyday moments. As he explained, these designs are not simply about function, but about evoking emotion and encouraging presence. In his collaborations with Michelin-starred chefs and architects, Alberto explores how design can foster sensory and even spiritual connections between people and their environments.

Together, Carlo and Alberto painted a compelling portrait of what “timeless forms” truly mean: not the pursuit of physical permanence, but the creation of emotional permanence. Through architecture, installations, and objects, they showed that design’s most powerful impact often lies not in what it builds, but in the memories, feelings, and experiences it leaves behind.

In an age obsessed with speed and novelty, this conversation was a beautiful reminder: true design endures not through trends, but through meaning.
