The influence of vernacular architecture, a celebration of outdoor living, and a deep connection to nature are at the heart of the identity and philosophy of Industry of All Nations (IOAN). Guided by principles of sustainability and cultural respect, IOAN designs spaces and products that draw on local materials and traditional building techniques, creating authentic, immersive experiences that honor both environment and community. Their approach emphasizes harmony between built structures and natural surroundings, striving for minimal environmental impact while fostering a sense of place and identity. Through this lens, IOAN explores architecture that invites inhabitants to engage with nature, advocating for a way of life that respects natural ecosystems and prioritizes open, flexible spaces.

One project that reflects these principles is The Landing House, located on a rugged, coastal landscape in Todos Santos, Mexico. Designed to blend into the Baja California desert, the house respects its surroundings, using locally sourced rammed earth that minimizes environmental impact and embodies the natural colors and textures of the area. This material choice provides natural insulation, keeping interiors cool in the arid climate while grounding the structure in its setting, creating an earthy, timeless appeal that feels at one with the landscape.

Designed to blur the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces, The Landing House opens to its environment with wide, expansive views and inviting outdoor areas. Each room transitions naturally into terraces and patios that embrace the desert, allowing natural breezes and light to fill the home. The layout of the house emphasizes simplicity and openness, reinforcing the IOAN philosophy of minimal intervention and environmental integration. By using materials that echo the tones and textures of the surrounding desert, the design fosters a sense of belonging within its context.

The Landing House also reflects IOAN’s ethos of sustainability and self-sufficiency. The property relies on solar power and rainwater collection, reducing dependence on external resources and highlighting the project’s commitment to ecological responsibility. It is not just a home but a testament to living with nature, celebrating regional design practices that respect the land and local culture.

Through The Landing House, Industry of All Nations demonstrates that architecture can be a powerful medium for environmental consciousness and cultural respect, showing us that sustainable design doesn’t just serve function but creates a lifestyle that values harmony, simplicity, and respect for place.
