The concept of plastic and sensory expression in architecture is directly connected to creating spaces that resonate emotionally with their inhabitants. Architect Sérgio Sampaio's Casa Float exemplifies this approach, transcending mere construction to deliver an immersive and emotive spatial experience. This project is designed to evoke deep emotional and sensory responses, making it a standout in contemporary residential architecture.

Central to Sérgio's design is the use of natural light and shadows, creating a dynamic interplay within the space. "Natural light in its reflections on surfaces; sometimes refractory, sometimes reflective. The shadows that project in various ways; laced by the brises, silhouettes of the trees, geometric shapes." These elements blur the boundaries between the interior and exterior, integrating the natural environment into the home's core. This permeability allows the presence of nature - wind, birds, and trees - to constantly influence the interior spaces, creating a fluid dialogue between inside and outside.

Movement within the Casa Float is another key aspect that shapes user perception. Sérgio explains, "The dynamics of movement occur in various situations: through the open/close/slide play of the brises on the veranda that opens to the side garden." The design encourages a dynamic experience through the architectural promenade, featuring strategically placed staircases and ramps that enhance visual framing. A mural by João Nitsche further contributes to this experience, offering a nearly "psychedelic" play of whirls that change with the viewer's proximity. This mural accompanies the access ramp to the garage and becomes a focal point in the living room, continuously altering the spatial experience.

For Sérgio, the ultimate role of architecture is to evoke emotions. "Emotion is the keyword in architecture. If it doesn't evoke emotion, it's not architecture; it's mere construction." The Casa Float is meticulously designed to stimulate the senses and touch the soul of anyone who experiences it. The sensory stimuli, varying for each individual, aim to leave a lasting impression, making the Casa Float not just a home but a profound architectural journey.
