At a time when architecture is being challenged to respond more consciously to environmental concerns, temporary installations have become powerful platforms for experimentation. These structures allow architects to test new ideas at full scale, exploring alternative materials, construction systems, and ways of living that are more adaptable, efficient, and connected to place. Within this context, the 1st Brazilian Architecture Biennial (BAB) offers an important stage for reflecting on the future of architecture through innovation, sustainability, and cultural identity.

Created to celebrate Electrolux’s 100 years in Brazil, Casa Bem Vivida Electrolux, designed by Superlimão, translates these ideas into an immersive domestic experience that brings together efficiency, material reuse, and Brazilian architectural references. Developed as an experimental house for the Biennial, the project reflects both Electrolux’s commitment to innovation and Superlimão’s research driven approach to design.

For the São Paulo based studio, experimentation has always been a central part of the practice. As Lula Gouveia, partner at Superlimão, explains, sustainability and efficiency are not new concerns, but values that already shape their work. This project became an opportunity to explore those principles while creating a space that feels distinctly Brazilian.

At the center of the design is a generous roof structure, imagined as one of the most symbolic elements of Brazilian architecture. The roof integrates a shed skylight that allows natural light to enter while improving cross ventilation, creating a comfortable interior through passive strategies. This is paired with an external enclosure inspired by the traditional cobogó. Reinterpreted through contemporary materials, the ventilated walls are made from recycled PET plastic, transforming waste into a lightweight and expressive façade.

Inside, the material palette continues this dialogue between innovation and local knowledge. Earth based finishes are applied over PET wool panels, creating walls that are thin, flexible, and capable of regulating indoor humidity by absorbing and releasing moisture according to climate conditions. The result is a space that performs almost like a living organism, naturally adapting to its surroundings.

Designed as a modular and prefabricated structure, Casa Bem Vivida Electrolux was also developed with circularity in mind. Once the Biennial ends, the house will be disassembled and reused in future Electrolux activations across Brazil. Floors, walls, and roof elements are all sectional, extending the project’s life beyond the event itself.

With its soft white exterior and ethereal presence, the house also invites visitors to imagine their own way of inhabiting it, offering a thoughtful vision of how Brazilian architecture can evolve through innovation, reuse, and climate responsiveness.
