In recent years, architecture in rural settings has begun to shift toward more careful and site-specific strategies. Rather than relying on references to traditional forms or contrasting sharply with the landscape, new approaches aim to establish a balanced relationship between building and terrain. The goal is not to dominate the land, but to work with it - respecting its contours, climate, and scale while offering a contemporary response to how we live outside the city.
Casa CCB, designed by Kiko Salomão and Marcio Tanaka of KS+T Studio, is a clear example of this mindset. Set within Fazenda Boa Vista in Porto Feliz, Brazil, the house sits on a large plot marked by an 11-meter slope. Instead of leveling the site aggressively, the architects use a concrete base to create a platform that gently negotiates the topography. On this foundation, three volumes are placed with precision and clarity.
Two gabled brick volumes define the main living and sleeping areas. Their proportions recall simple rural buildings, but the material palette - with long bricks in varying shades of grey - and generous glass openings give them a calm, contemporary presence. The central volume hosts the living room, entrance hall, and home theater, while the second contains bedrooms and private spaces, including additional family suites on the lower level.
Between the two, a patio with a fireplace and an infinity-edge pool creates an outdoor living space that connects the volumes and opens the house to the surrounding views. A third, more linear volume at the rear houses services and leisure programs like a garage, gourmet area, spa, and gym, organized in a straightforward, linear plan.
Natural light and vegetation play a central role in the experience of the house. Openings in the sloped roofs bring light into internal gardens, softening the interior atmosphere. The landscape design by Rodrigo Oliveira further supports the architecture, with layers of planting that gradually shift from dense to delicate, shaping transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces.
Casa CCB reflects a way of building that listens to its environment - not through imitation, but through careful adjustment. It proposes a rural architecture rooted in clarity, comfort, and a deep respect for place.
