Thomas Coldefy & Isabel Van Haute

“After growing up in Cambrai and Gent, Isabel and I met when we both lived and worked in Paris then moved to New York. We settled in Lille in 2006, a city we call our home today. Lille is a city where contrasts shape its identity – where history, industry, and modernity collide in a constant dialogue. It’s a place that doesn’t hide its imperfections but embraces them, with architecture that speaks to the city’s evolution. For us, Lille isn’t just a backdrop, it’s a living, breathing reflection of how architecture can adapt to its surroundings, always with a sense of human scale, deeply rooted in the city’s Flemish culture. What fascinates us most is how Lille acts as a meeting point between cultures, with its unique position connecting London, Brussels, and Paris. This proximity to major European capitals brings an incredible energy to the city – an infusion of ideas, influences, and possibilities that make Lille feel both local and global at once.” – Thomas Coldefy, Founding Partner of Coldefy
